We'll start straight away with our favourite spot: Vessel! This vibrant hangout is the perfect spot to enjoy delicious bites, amazing dishes and cappuccinos (or a glass of rosé) – all day long. Vessel has a spacious sun-drenched terrace, and because it’s next to the IJ (hello beautiful sunset), you can take a refreshing plunge in the water too! Distillery 't Nieuwe Diep

A true hidden gem in Amsterdam-Oost: distillery 't Nieuwe Diep, located in a renovated pumping station in Flevopark. They serve ice-cold beers, wines, typical Dutch snacks (cheese, ham, you name it) and lots of different jenevers. Gaze over the water while sipping apple jenever made with home-grown fruit. Is it getting too hot? Cool off in the shade; there are picnic tables under the trees. It’s worth the trip. Promised.

Dignita Hoftuin: a green oasis in the middle of the busy centre of Amsterdam. At Dignita Hoftuin you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee with cake and drinks. Be quick, or reserve a spot during the week.

Poesiat & Kater

Craving for craft beer? Go to Poesiat & Kater; a beer brewery in Amsterdam-Oost with a spacious terrace. Worth mentioning: the brewing process takes place right in front of you, and the beer goes straight into the bar's tap tanks. Cheers!

Waterkant

As soon as the temperature rises, many locals can be found at the Waterkant. This Surinamese eatery is located in the middle of the city. It can be pretty crowded on summer days, and for a good reason: there's an open, waterside terrace which enjoys full sunshine – making it a popular spot in the summer.

Strand Zuid

Strand Zuid – ‘South Beach’ - is located in the middle of Beatrix Park in Amsterdam. It’s a water-side bar-slash-restaurant with a shady and sunny outside terrace with views of the pond and Beatrix Park. Relax, wiggle your toes in the sand, and enjoy a well-deserved refreshing drink. Go for a walk in Beatrix Park before heading off to your next adventure.

Vergulden Eenhoorn

Located on the Ringdijk in Amsterdam-Oost, the Vergulden Eenhoorn is a great spot to catch some sun. It used to be a city farm, and that’s still very much what the vibe is like. The Vergulden Eenhoorn is more than 300 years old and has a large picnic garden where you can enjoy local food in an oasis of tranquillity. Listen to the chirping birds or play some ‘jeu de boules’.

Neef van Fred

This quirky canal-side spot is in the middle of Amsterdam Oud-West: De Baarsjes. Neef van Fred - meaning Fred’s cousin – is a cafe where you can sit directly along the Admiralengracht. There’s a great selection of local beers to try before tucking into some dinner in the sunshine, choosing from the all-day bistro menu.
