Top 9: coolest hotspots in Amsterdam-West during winter

We get it. When it is cold outside, it’s tempting to just curl up under a fluffy blanket and watch your favourite Christmas movie at home by a cosy fireplace. But during the winter season, there’s just too much to see and experience in Amsterdam! Think about all the beautiful Christmas decorations, heated terraces and houses covered in snowflakes. So, grab your moon boots: these are the coolest hotspots and activities near the up-and-coming Houthaven neighbourhood in Amsterdam-West!

#1: ‘Over the Edge’ swing
Daredevils, listen up. Want to swing back and forth at 100 metres above the city on Europe’s highest swing? Go to the ADAM Toren! Dangle your feet over the edge, let the adrenaline rush through your veins but most of all, don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful view.

#2: Visit the EYE Film Museum
Take the ferry (‘het pondje’) to Amsterdam-Noord and go to the EYE Film Museum. This national museum for film, located on Amsterdam’s IJ harbour, manages more than 54.000 films from all genres. The collection represents an outstanding sample of film history, from classics and blockbusters to cult films.

#3: Go to the famous IJ-Hallen
While you're in the area… Go to the NDSM district for the well-known flea market in the IJ-Hallen. This largest market in Europe is definitely worth a visit!

#4: Play table tennis at the Ping Pong bar
If you’ve seen every pub by now: on the edge of the Westerpark you can enjoy some exercise, eh, table tennis in the Ping Pong bar (and relax with a drink at the bar). Did you know ‘ping pong’ is the Dutch translation for table tennis?

#5: Chocolate Experience
For all chocolate lovers: visit the Tony Chocolonely Store at the Westerpark. This shop is a real chocolate experience and full of Tony's bars. And yes! You can (and want to!) taste everything. Amsterdam-West has never been so much fun!

#6: Visit the '9 Streets'
From the Westerpark, you walk in 10 minutes to the Jordaan neighbourhood, where you can stroll through the famous '9 Streets' (9 Straatjes). Eat the famous Dutch ‘stroopwafels’, visit all the unique boutique shops and admire the beautiful Amsterdam canals. Oh, and don’t forget to put down the shopping bags and Instagram your lunch at one of the cafes and bistros the district offers.

#7: Arcades
Get the tokens out of your winter coat and come play at the TonTonClub. The Amsterdam TonTonClub in the Westerpark is the arcade bar of Amsterdam. With a retro arcade and board games bar and dozens of games, you'll be busy for a while.

#8: Shared-dining at Vessel
After a whole day of site-seeing, come to the newest vibrant hangout of town: Vessel! There’s a brand-new winter menu with amazing dishes to share. Expect everything to be surprising yet super pure in its being. Just sit down, relax and enjoy a ‘Best of Vessel’ (mix of meat, fish and veggies). Vegan? Go for the vegan ‘Best of Vessel’!
